We are pleased to provide Homestay Placement Services for students attending
the University of the Fraser Valley in Abbotsford.
We are committed to providing UFV Students with safe, comfortable Homestay
accommodations in the Abbotsford area.
HomestayCentral Placement Services will find you a Homestay where you
live with an Abbotsford family, short- or long-term. This gives you
the opportunity to practice your English speaking skills every day and
learn more about daily life in Canada.

How-to Become a Homestay Host Family in Abbotsford
Living in a Homestay is valuable to students so they can experience life
in an English-speaking environment. Homestay is a great way for students
to live in a home-away-from-home, so they can practice English and learn
about Canadian life and culture.
We are recruiting host families for our Homestay program. Host families may
be couples with or without children, single parents, "empty nesters" or
single adults. Students attending UCFV programs and Homestay come from
all over the globe.
Our Homestay Hosts must:
• Be located in Abbotsford, less than 20-30 minutes by bus
to the UCFV main campus
• Have a good command of the English language
• Provide a supportive, English-only environment helpful to
language learning
• Spend an hour or so each day with the student and include
them in as many
family activities as possible
• Willing to help students adjust to a new culture
• Be open to learning about other cultures and exchanging ideas
• Provide their student with a fully furnished room including
a desk
• Provide either Option (1) three meals a day or Option (2)
room only with self cooking
• Be willing to attend certain UCFV functions with your student
• Be available to host during the summer months
The remuneration for Homestay in the Abbotsford Area is $700 per
month. Please be advised there is a limit of two guest students from
any source per home.
In order to be considered as a Homestay host, please download and complete the host family profile or fill out the online application. ILR Homestay staff will visit selected homes in order to view the amenities, answer questions and discuss the Homestay experience. Homestay staff members are available to assist students and host families for the first 3 months of the Homestay placement.
